A late morning, finally, to start off our last day. For me, the day began with a pleasant surprise. Our agency picked up two awards from the CT Ad Club for our work with UConn and the Basketball Hall of Fame. Everyone has packed up. We had our final feedback meeting at Technoserve with Ciprian and Maureen, who put most of this together. Their leader, Fred, came in to say a few final words.
We had a very long drive back to Kisumu from the Mara, with lunch at a gas station on the way. Now it was time to prep for our “work” days. One of the reasons we were there was to run a series of programs about small business. David and Wynd were to start out with a session on small business management, then Wynd took it over with a piece on marketing. By the way, both of them are excellent speakers. You can tell they’ve done this a couple times. I, however, haven’t given a presentation since college. Of course, I told no one this before today, I just made like I knew what I was doing. I was beyond nervous.
I cried for the first time today in nearly 10 years. I admit that I teared up at my wedding, seeing Leah step out into the sun. She looked amazing in that dress. But I’m not sure any tears found there way beyond my eyes.
See, I turned 34 today.
